Marie Métrailler's workshop is like an alpine grotto, where dedicated weavers (such as Rosie Chevrier, pictured) tend to their looms in a buzzing frenzy. Dedication is the ruling word here, since much of the weaving traditions of the Swiss Alps have melted away with the snow — but not here.
Having been originally founded in 1938 by Marie Métrailler, a self-taught weaver and tour de force, the workshop recently re-opened after a brief hiatus of 20 years.
Whether you are looking for upholstery fabrics, traditional Evolènard clothing or a custom creation, the team of weavers can produce an item of your choosing in an instant. Everything is inspired by the work of Marie Métrailler, whose creations are exhibited throughout the workshop.
Visitors can also learn about the craft through demonstrations, courses and visits, as well as discussions and meetings dedicated to raising awareness about the history and heritage of alpine weaving.
